Choosing between the Demco 21K and 31K Under Bed Mounting Systems (UMS) really comes down to one thing: how much "truck" and "trailer" you’re actually working with.
While both systems use the same sleek, flush-mount design that leaves your truck bed completely clear when the hitch is removed, their capabilities are built for very different classes of towing.
Demco 21K UMS
Think of this as the "Standard Heavyweight." It is designed for the vast majority of consumer-grade 5th wheel towing.
Weight Capacity: Up to 21,000 lbs Gross Trailer Weight (GTW).
Vertical Load: Typically rated for a 5,250 lb pin weight.
- Best For: * Large luxury 5th wheel campers.
- Standard ¾ ton (2500) or 1-ton (3500) single-rear-wheel trucks.
- Toy haulers that don't exceed the 21k limit when fully loaded with gear and water.
Demco 31K UMS
This is the "Industrial Titan." You’re moving into commercial-grade or extreme-duty territory here.
Weight Capacity: Up to 31,000 lbs Gross Trailer Weight (GTW)
- Vertical Load: Rated for a massive 7,750 lb pin weight.
- Best For:
- Heavy-duty commercial trailers or massive triple-axle toy haulers.
- 1-ton (3500) dually trucks or Chassis Cab models.
- Users who want an extreme "safety margin" or plan on upgrading to a much heavier trailer in the future.
Which one should you pick?
Go with the 21K if... You are towing a standard recreational 5th wheel. Most high-end campers max out between 16,000 and 19,000 lbs. The 21K gives you plenty of headroom without the extra cost of the heavy-duty hardware.
Go with the 31K if... Your trailer's GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) is anywhere near 20,000 lbs. It’s always better to have more capacity than you need. Also, if you own a dually and tow heavy equipment or horse trailers with large living quarters, the 31K is the safer, more robust investment.
Always check your truck's specific towing capacity before choosing. Installing a 31K hitch doesn't mean your truck can legally or safely pull 31,000 lbs if the manufacturer rated the vehicle for less!
